UDO Official Statement
Date: 24th May 2010
Subject: Scottish Street Dance Championships 2010
A significant number of concerned UDO members have brought to our attention a selection of derogatory statements made over the last few weeks by a single source referring to the Scottish Street Dance Championships 2010 and in particular called into question the integrity of the UDO and a number of dance schools who attended the Scottish Street Dance Championships 2010. These “shoot from the hip” style comments have been made in the public domain in a manner that lacks any formal or informal direct approach to the people or organisations concerned.
We (the UDO) can confirm that at no point have we received any formal or informal complaints regarding this matter from the alleged source and remain more than little concerned that having accommodated a number of special requests on the day namely; placing the team in question on first in the running order to enable an early departure and allowing the team in question to be filmed in an otherwise photography restricted environment calls into question the motives and values of the source.
The UDO continues to achieve the very best of fairness, balance and common sense at all its competitions throughout the UK and welcomes constructive comments made in the appropriate way, formally or informally and therefore takes no part in “playground tactics” such as; posting internet based comments resulting in effect to cyber bullying and negative promotion of the industry all of which lacks any apparent substance or respect for the parties concerned.
As an organisation we have many considerations when making public statements of any sort which include, integrity, industry impact, social awareness, moral view point, legalities and professional standing but to mention a few, qualities that are not so binding when making individual and personal statements. With this in mind we (UDO) would challenge the person, persons or organisations involved to register their grievance with the UDO which is not opinion based and can provide specific detail and tangible evidence that supports any allegations.
In response to receiving any such information an “independent” person will complete a full and thorough investigation that considers all the relevant facts and will make public the outcome regardless of fault or blame. As with any organisation with a membership base that exceeds 12,000 members we make every effort to remain transparent and balanced in our views publishing our findings and if found at fault will always implement corrective actions and procedures that limits any risk of the same thing reoccurring again.
We can confirm that an allegation of “Bringing the industry into disrepute” has already been received in relation to above matter, the result of which will be published in due course.
